IMSC2018 - my first large international conference

Written by Daria Filatova (ESR6)

IMSC 2018 was my first large international conference. I was amazed by its scale. I saw with my own eyes how big mass spectrometry community is. It is amazing to see so many people from all the world brought together by passion for mass spectrometry.

I am very grateful to the organizing committee for the scientifically stimulating environment they helped create. At this conference I was able to enrich my professional knowledge, share my findings, hone my skills in communication and expand my professional network. Every day, I learned new information at various presentations. I was inspired by research presented and shared in casual discussions by my colleagues from all over the world. And I was able to see equipment from different companies and to learn more about their products first-hand, I couldn't help but to feel like a kid in a candy store. Furthermore, in preparation for and during my poster session, I was able to practise my skills in communication and become more confident in public speaking. I presented my results and received feedback from my colleagues. Throughout fruitful discussion, many offered useful tips for further design of my research.

To conclude, this experience will surely help me in all my future endeavours. And I look forward to future meetings with diverse people joined together by the passion for mass spectrometry with a sense of joy and wonder.
