The Toxic Plants-Phytotoxins (TPPT) database is now available

Database

The TPPT database is published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry (JAFC) and available as Open Access

By Barbara F. Günthardt and Thomas D. Bucheli

We compiled the Toxic Plants – Phytotoxins (TPPT) database providing detailed information about the poisonous plants in Switzerland and the phytotoxins produced by these plants. Besides the phytotoxins patterns in plant species, the database contains several additional in-silico estimated toxicological and physicochemical properties. The database can be downloaded in Excel or SQLite from the Agroscope homepage: https://www.agroscope.admin.ch/agroscope/en/home/publications/apps/tppt.html

The TPPT database is published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry (JAFC, Figure 1) and available under: https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs.jafc.8b01639. The paper from NaToxAq Scientists made it an open access ACS Editors’ Choice article and is currently among the most read papers of JAFC.

The paper describes the TPPT database and discusses important properties of the plant toxins with regard to their environmental behavior. A prioritization procedure (Figure 2) identifies among all 1586 phytotoxins those that are potential natural aquatic micropollutants. Over 34% could be problematic, and several of them are investigated by NaToxAq Scientists.
