Finishing PhD in quarantine. Can the timing be better?
Written by Daria Filatova (ESR6)
At Eawag, everything went online immediately. After setting the home office and getting used to the new routine, the Zoom-fun has started. From week one, we have the department seminars and online coffee breaks what helps to stay in touch and feel the group sprit. At the same time, meetings via Zoom with my secondment supervisor Lilli and the team were also established. This helped to stay on track with work and progress every week. Within this period, we discussed data treatment approaches and results obtained. Additionally, we also discussed the project with our collaborator from Yorkshire Waters - John Haley. Right now, we are finishing data treatment, and as the final step we are doing suspect screening. That being said, learning how to use Compound Discoverer for this purpose is online as well. To learn the main aspects, workshops were organized within the team at Eawag, and the short Zoom calls are being held for managing technicalities. Even though, COVID-19 has introduced changes, we have learned to carry on, and continue the work. What is really important in the last months of PhD studies ;)
Greetings from home office and the town where I am currently living.
