1st PhD school - day 2

Day 2 in Helsingør

The day included a field trip where the fellows learned how to sample the different soil layers in a wood, as well as lively dicussions around the bonfire on 'the good researcher'

The Course C1 'Introduction course for ESRs' has started, and included topics such as 'What is a PhD?', Personal Career Plans, 'Personal development and planning', 'networking strategies, presenting your project in 2 minutes (elevator talks) etc.

In the afternoon the fellows had excercises involving research plans. Herafter, we went for a forest walk to a site full of Thuja trees (Thuja plicata), where the fellows learned how to sample the different layers (horizons) in the soil, and what to consider when planning sampling.

In the evening we made a bonfire and barbequed marshmallows while discussing what characterizes a good researcher.
